The $27M/Year Business You Never Thought Of!

Painting the Path to Millions

What He Does

John Evans began EverLine Coatings in his backyard. He built a pavement maintenance and road painting business that has grown to nearly 100 franchise locations across the US and Canada, with a total revenue of $2.8 million a year.

Advice
Whether the economy is good or bad, you just have to start. If you wait for good economic times to start your business, now your business is thriving in an environment where only things are good. So you have to ask yourself, "Will it continue to operate when things are bad?"

How He Started

Johns Evans started his business with only $500 to his name. He received a small line of credit from the bank, bought some equipment such as, paint, ladders and a vehicle, and then as he needed more equipment, he would book jobs and request a 15% deposit. He put 10% of the deposit towards materials and the other 5% for financing the business.

When he first started the initial cost was about $55,000. About $30,000 went toward the initial license and the rest of the money went towards a trailer, equipment, and a used truck.

One of his main pieces of equipment is an airless sprayer that can be purchased or rented at stores like Home Depot, attached to an engine and wheels. This is what paints the straight lines you see on the pavement.

How He Grew

  • Utilize Guerrilla Marketing which is an advertisement strategy where a company uses surprise or unconventional interactions to promote a product or service. This could be as simple as knocking on doors and putting signs around to advertise.

  • He presented more advanced technology to contractors

  • His used tactics like expressing how his equipment was more environmental friendly and lasts longer than other businesses.

  • Doing more Business-to-business – “B2B” – which is commerce between two businesses rather than to commerce between a business and an individual consumer. This is going to generate more money in the long term.

  • Build local relationships like with churches and libraries to establish those long term connections.

  • Secure national accounts like major retailers and large properties.

  • Operating with proactive urgency to take care of the client, this forms trust with the customer, and they're gonna hire your services more.
