Hierarchy of Competence

This is a way to understand the stages of learning a new skill. It goes like this:

1. Unconscious Incompetence: At this stage, you're new to something and don't even realize how bad you are at it. It's like dabbling in something without knowing how much you suck.

2. Conscious Incompetence: In this stage, you become aware of your shortcomings and start working on improving. You know you suck, but you're actively trying to get better and not suck as much.

3. Conscious Competence: With practice and effort, you start to suck less. You develop a consistent routine and know what you need to do to improve.

4. Unconscious Competence: At this stage, you become really good at something with little effort. You've built up years of competence, and others may look at you and wonder how you do it so effortlessly.

Keep in mind that everyone starts at the first stage, and with practice and effort, you can progress through the hierarchy of competence.

Entrepreneur

When you’re trying to be a successful entrepreneur, consuming information isn't enough. You need to take action! It's like buying a domain for a new idea but never actually doing anything with it. That's where the next level comes in. You need to move past dabbling and start taking confident action. It's about testing things out until you believe in yourself and go all in.

It's normal to have doubts, but don't let them hold you back. Start small, take consistent action, and build your confidence along the way.

Starter
As a starter, it's all about recognizing that you have room to improve and consciously working towards getting better. In terms of mindset, it about shifting your belief to thinking that if someone else has achieved something, there's a chance you can do it too. Realize that if someone with the same abilities as you can succeed, then there's no reason why you couldn't. One key trait that helps in this phase is being resourceful. It's important to be able to find and utilize the resources available to you. The most crucial skill during this stage is ruthless blind execution. It means taking action without hesitation or self-doubt. Sometimes you won't know if something will work until you try it, so it's important to execute your ideas boldly and learn from the results.

Producer

The producer phase is when you start to improve after putting in a lot of practice and effort. You might be doing a lot of different tasks like sales, billing, DMing people, contracts, and even taxes.

The next step is finding someone you can trust and learn from, especially when you're still growing your business. The key trait during this phase is determination. You see a little success, and it motivates you to keep going and see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Master

When you reach the level of being a master, it means you've become really good at what you do and you're able to make millions of dollars. It's like you've reached a point where you can sell something consistently to people, and they actually want it. You're making sales consistently, growing month over month, and you have happy customers. Your delivery systems are solid, so everything is running smoothly.

Here's the thing, if you let this process happen naturally without interfering, you'll benefit from time. Most people interrupt this process and don't allow themselves to reach that million-dollar level. But as a master, you don't suck anymore, and it requires less effort. You're saving time because of your expertise. You believe that consistency is more important than intensity. And you're working your butt off, being industrious. Your key skill is sales, and you've leveraged your marketing so you're not as involved as before.
