Master The Give-To-Ask Ratio

It's all about the concept of giving, giving, giving before making any requests. The major media companies out there strive to maximize their ability to ask for things on their platforms without losing their viewers. On TV, they typically have around 13 minutes of advertising for every 47 minutes of content.

Instead, the key is to keep giving until your audience asks for more. This is a great way to gauge their readiness for your offer. When you give something to someone first, they feel a sense of indebtedness and are more likely to respond positively to your future requests. And the beauty of media is that you can do this on a grand scale, providing value to millions of people simultaneously.

If you consistently give and give, then your audience will compound. The audience is the asset, not the content.

Tip #1
The most powerful factor that influences pricing power and profits is the principle of supply and demand. When we create content, we're essentially manipulating the demand curve in our favor. As a business owner, you have control over the supply, allowing you to increase demand while simultaneously reducing supply. This dynamic combination can skyrocket prices to new heights.

Integrated vs Intermittent

There are two ways asking works in content. When it comes to asking in content, you can think of them as commercials. It's like interrupting your own content to share a commercial about your own stuff. It's a way to promote and showcase what you have to offer within your content.

Strategy 1

The Integrated Approach involves seamlessly incorporating additional information into the content itself.

  • The information naturally comes up as you're talking or during the content.

  • Works well for long-form content: This approach is particularly effective for long-form content such as books, videos, podcasts, and more.

  • Keep the content primarily giving. Aim to keep about 98% of the content focused on providing value to your audience. Reserve 2% for asking. Dedicate a small portion of the content, for making specific requests or calls to action.

Strategy 2

The Intermittent Approach means taking breaks in between your regular content to share something about what you offer.

This approach works particularly well for short-form platforms like Instagram. For instance, if you have a series of 10 posts sharing valuable content, the 11th post could be about the services you provide, and then you can seamlessly go back to sharing more giving content.
