How He Started

Money Break Down

The great thing about a blog is that it’s super affordable and easy to start. The domain name only costs about $10 and then it costs around $5 a month to host.

To create the content it just costs you your time. As things scale, you make some money, and reinvest it.

The first year he did it full time for half the year, in 2016, and made about $17k. The following year he made $75k, and the next year was $225k. Then the next year after that, Kevin Espiritu made $550k. When he made $550k, half of it was from e-comm. In the year 2020, he made $2.8 million, and in 2021, $7.3 million.

How He Grew The Business

Kevin Espiritu says, “The commerce was the exploder for the business.”

After the blog, Kevin went on to create a YouTube channel and podcast to reach more audience and expand to all media types.

Kevin got his first viewers by starting a Reddit called r/hydro for hydroponics. This is a method of growing plants without soil. He wrote about this to attract audience from a community that had traffic, this linked the community to his blog.

A way to diversify the content is by talking about different things such as, chickens, canning, preserving, house plants, etc.

Tip
To grow his channel, Kevin also used strategies like doing Collabs with other influencers.

If the essence of the content is what the viewer wants, they will put up with bad production or bad quality, if it is the exact information they are looking for. He recommends, that when you are just starting out, focus more on quantity over quality. Then, as you get more experience and grow your audience, you can improve the quality.

After he grew his channel, blog, and podcast, he had a huge audience that he could sell products to. He created products that related to his content that his audience would purchase. He started by selling metal raised garden beds and then moved on to other products. This is a big part of his business that leads him to skyrocket in profit.
